Calabaza 6 is a small demarcation belonging to the municipality of Antilla. It is a land of cattle, crops and above all... good people. There lives Meliano Hidalgo Santí, an 83 year old farmer who is still linked to the furrow. He competes with the rooster every morning and remains undefeated, because "the early bird catches the worm.

His plantations look well cared for: yucca over here, sweet potatoes over there, and over there the soil is colored red with so many tomatoes and chili peppers.
The sheep rest in the shade of the banana plantation, and Meliano stands nearby. It is a refreshing pause between so much work.

"My family was from Tacajó. Hard-working people from whom I inherited this love for the land. That is why I work it from sunrise to sunset, and I will continue to do so as long as I have strength left. Now I am the trunk of this family".

When I try to leave, he keeps me worried: "When you are going to talk about me, please clarify my surname, because I have a son who is also called Meliano Hidalgo, but the second one is Gutiérrez. It's not for nothing, but just so they know it's me".
I smile and assure him that there will be no such confusion, because when everyone sees his picture they will know that it is him, Meliano, the 'trunk of the family'.
