I visited the Unidad Básica de Producción Agropecuaria "Miguel Salcedo Santana" (UBPC) located in Los Pinos, in the municipality of Antilla. The contributions of this collective to the community where the production unit is located are truly meritorious. Its president, Nolberto Consuegra Ávila, is an excellent host. The livestock module is run by Yanisleydis Caridad de la Torre Escobar, a 28 year old young woman determined to multiply what has been achieved so far. Her colleagues praise her dedication, which knows no limits, as she is one of the first to arrive and the last to leave. She enthusiastically shows me the chickens and sheep, which are the animals closest to her.
For his part, Nolberto says that they have an agreement with the Family Care System, through which they provide: "guarapo, milk, food, and even when the birds begin to lay, we will also provide eggs. All of this is free of charge to support the nutrition of the grandparents who receive this service".
Wonderful people abound in this unit: the cook, the guarapero, the administrator... people who, in the poet's words, "are key to improving the world". We said goodbye satisfied because this collective shows daily that it is possible, and between congratulations and hugs, we left the place.
